Sixty one percent of Ugandans lack access to safe water

Uganda has experienced two decades of economic growth, leading to large population movements from rural areas to informal settlements around urban centres. High population growth – nearly triple the global average – stressed the water and sanitation services that exist. 61 percent of Ugandans lack access to safe water and 75 percent do not have access to improved sanitation facilities.

Provide an entire community with clean safe water

Olive Grove Foundation are building hand pump water wells in various regions throughout Uganda. This month we aim to raise funds for and build ten water wells, each of which will provide thousands of litres of clean drinking water to communities every day. The wells are dug ninety feet into the ground and a concrete base, drainage and high quality water pump are installed, creating a long lasting water supply which will provide millions of litres of water over several decades of use.

The cost of one hand pump community water well in Uganda is only £1,100. Our target this month is to raise £11,000 so that we can provide clean water for ten communities in Uganda. A full report will be provided for each water well that we build and we can place a customised plaque on the wells if you would like to dedicate one as a legacy to someone dear to you.
