STUDENTS UNDER SIEGE

Years of underfunding have left Gaza’s education system overstretched, with 94 per cent of schools operating on a double-shift basis, hosting one ‘school’ of students in the morning and a different group in the afternoon.

Add this to the bleak conditions children grow up in, frequently surrounded by poverty and violence, and the chances of successfully gaining an education are severely hampered.

SUPPORTING A BRIGHTER FUTURE

In January of 2015 we received a request from one of our volunteers who had been working on the ground in the besieged Gaza Strip for many months. He informed us of two sisters who were beginning their final year of college, yet due to living in poverty, were unable to purchase any text books, stationary, or materials required to complete their studies.

A campaign was launched in the UK to provide financial assistance to the two sisters so that they could complete their studies at college successfully.

WHAT WE DID

With the help of one of our long standing volunteers who has worked and lived in the Gaza Strip, we provided the two sisters in need with a grant of £500 so that they could purchase essential educational materials in order to complete their studies.
