SUPPORT FOR REFUGEES MACEDONIA

IN SEARCH OF SAFETY

The global migrant crisis has seen tens of thousands of people from several regions fleeing war and extreme poverty in search of safety, food, medicine and a brighter future.

In July of 2015, Hundreds of migrants from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa were passing through Macedonia every day in a bid to enter the EU. The Macedonian government forbade them from using public transport, forcing them to walk for days to reach the border crossing. The government also forbade charities and aid organisations from providing the refugees with food or drink!

LIGHTENING THEIR LOAD

We received an urgent request for help from a partner organisation in Macedonia who were supporting the migrants passing through their country.

Women, children and the elderly were going for days without proper food or drink, many of them whilst fasting during the blessed month of Ramadan.

After lobbying the government our partner organisation managed to change the law and the refugees were able to use public transport and aid organisations were able to provide them with meals.

WHAT WE DID

With the assistance of our partners on the ground we were able to provide hot meals and drinks to the refugees passing through Macedonia on a daily basis throughout the blessed month of Ramadan.
