A TRUE UNDERSTANDING MACEDONIA

DAW’AH

In 2001, the very first translation of the noble Qur’an was printed in the Macedonian language. The translation had been made in a dialect used in villages by the Macedonian Muslim minority (2% of Macedonians). Therefore the vast majority of Macedonians, especially non-Muslims, could not understand it.

HELPING TO SPREAD THE WORD

In 2007, a team of scholars and academics decided to translate the noble Qur’an into the mainstream Macedonian language. The translation took three years to complete, contains 730 pages and includes 250 footnotes of explanations/meanings of the text. Five Imams with working experience in the Macedonian language spent approximately six months each reviewing the new translation of the noble Qur’an.

WHAT WE DID

In November of 2012, we decided to be among the first to support the noble cause; through a publishing house in Macedonia we printed two thousand high quality copies of the noble Qur’an, which were then gifted to people interested in Islam via Daw’ah stalls, book stalls, libraries and other public buildings such as hospitals and universities.

After the initial distribution, our partner organisation in Macedonia reported a huge success and great feedback from those that received the Qur’ans. We therefore decided to launch a second campaign to fund the printing of further copies of the Qur’an.

Funds were raised and a further 1,800 copies of the Qur’an were printed for free distribution throughout Macedonia.
