HUNGER, FOOD & NUTRITION

Since 2006 the Gaza Strip has been under a tight blockade. The ongoing restriction on the movement of goods and people has had a hugely adverse effect on the economy; more than half of the Gaza population is unable to secure sufficient income to meet their essential food and non-food requirements.

According to the World food Programme, from October 2010 to March 2011, 54% of households in the Gaza Strip suffered from food insecurity and an additional 12% were vulnerable to food insecurity. Only one fifth of Gaza households are estimated to be food secure.

SUPPORT FOR GAZA’S DEPRIVED FAMILIES

In September of 2015, we embarked on a project aimed at assisting some of Gaza’s most deprived families.

A campaign was launched in the UK to raise funds to provide hundreds of poor families in the Gaza Strip with meat parcels during the festive period of Eid. The recipients of the meat parcels were to be families who would not normally be able to afford any kind of meat products.

WHAT WE DID

With the help of a local NGO, our food and nutrition team compiled a list of some of the most deprived families in the Gaza Strip.

A large cow was purchased and slaughtered. Meat parcels were prepared and distributed to hundreds of families from different areas of the Gaza Strip.
