TACKLING HUNGER ROMANIA

TACKLING HUNGER

More than 30% of the population in Romania live on less than £3 per day, making it one of the poorest countries in Europe.

Due to economic constraints, many struggle to put adequate food on the table for their families; leading to hunger and malnutrition, especially in young children.

SUPPORT FOR ROMANIA’S DEPRIVED FAMILIES

In October of 2012, we embarked on a project aimed at assisting some of Romania’s most deprived families.

A campaign was launched in the UK to raise funds to provide hundreds of poor families with meat parcels during the harsh winter season. The recipients of the meat parcels were to be families who would not normally be able to afford any kind of meat products.

WHAT WE DID

With the help of a local NGO, our food and nutrition team compiled a list of some of the most deprived families in and around the areas of Braila of Romania.

Good quality livestock, in the form of sheep, were sought and purchased. Meat parcels were prepared and distributed to approximately one hundred families.
