CHILDREN IN NEED

Since 2012 levels of poverty in Turkey have dropped from 30% to 16%. A series of reforms contributed many positive changes for women and children; however their situation continues to be adversely affected by broad geographical, economic and cultural disparities.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, 40% of children in rural areas are still living in poverty. Many of these children and their carers depend on local NGOs for their daily needs and live only with the very basic necessities.

SUPPORT FOR THE CHILDREN OF TURKEY

In August of 2011, we embarked on a project aimed at putting a smile on the faces of orphans in Turkey.

A campaign was launched in the UK to raise funds to provide orphans and their carers with financial aid. A specially designed T shirt was also commissioned for print, to be gifted to one hundred of the most deserving orphans.

WHAT WE DID

With the help of local NGOs in several towns and cities in the south of Turkey, our child support team compiled a list of orphaned boys and girls, giving priority to the most deserving.

Gift envelopes were each filled with 60 Turkish Liras (£20) and gifted to 137 orphans at their homes in the cities of Van, Mardin, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Adiyaman and Diyarbakir. One hundred specially designed T shirts were also gifted to the most deserving orphans.
